Meet the Masters
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Until May 29th, 2026, at Arizona Capitol Museum
Over 40 works of art from the Tubac Center of the Arts Master Artist collection will be on display at the historic copper-domed building, built in 1979. Master Artists featured include Francis Beaugureau, Hugh Cabot, Hart Haller (Hal) Empie, Tom Hill, Dale Nichols, Ross Stefan, Mortimer Wilson, Nicholas Wilson, Bobb Vann, Trudi Fletcher, Barbara Gurwitz, Virginia Hall, Barbara Hill, Marian Valentine, and Walter Wilson. These are artists who have lived and worked in Tubac and helped to make Tubac known as an art colony where “Art and History Meet”. Arizona elected officials will have an opportunity to enjoy seeing this exhibit as they pass by it on their way to legislative sessions at the state capitol. Many other visitors, school and community groups tour the museum on a regular basis. TCA members or friends planning to be in Phoenix this spring have an opportunity to see this exhibit as well as explore this historic area. Tubac Center of the Arts has partnered with MOAZA, Museum Artists of Arizona, to bring this exhibition to Phoenix.

Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and Museum
Among the things to explore at Tubac Presidio are historic buildings, a museum with exhibits covering 2,000 years of history — including Tohono O’odham, Apache, Mexican, Spanish and Territorial — an art gallery, and ruins of the Spanish fort from the mid-1700s. The park and museum are open Tuesdays through Sundays.

This Tubac destination celebrates the life of famed Arizona artist Hal Empie, who was born in 1909 and, when he passed in 2002, was the oldest continuous resident artist in Arizona. (He was also the state’s youngest pharmacist.) A gallery features dozens of Empie’s original paintings and sketches, and tours of the artist’s studio are available.

ABOUT THE SANTA CRUZ VALLWY CITIZENS COUNCIL
The Santa Cruz Valley Citizens Council (SCVCC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to informing and educating its members about local and regional issues that impact the interests of the community. The Council also advocates on behalf of its members regarding these concerns, striving to ensure their voices are heard and their interests protected.
Established in 1984, the SCVCC has been a vigilant watchdog group for the citizens of Tubac and its surrounding areas. The organization depends on the commitment of its Board of Directors, District Representatives, and members to safeguard the local environment and preserve the unique qualities that make the area an exceptional place to live.
Over the years, the Citizens Council has made a lasting impact on the character and
future of the community. Through its active participation and advocacy, the Council has successfully addressed a variety of important issues, helping to influence decisions and outcomes that benefit residents. Key initiatives and projects include:

Membership and Participation
The SCVCC meets on the second Monday of every month at 9:00 AM at the Tubac
Community Center. While attendance is not required, it is strongly encouraged. At these meetings, attendees receive monthly reports from county officials and hear from guest speakers on topics vital to Tubac’s well-being.
The Council’s effectiveness depends largely on the strength of its membership. If you are not yet a member, you are encouraged to join. Membership dues are
affordable—$15.00 for individuals and $25.00 for two-person households. Joining is simple; visit our website at yourscvcc.org to learn more about the Santa Cruz Valley Citizens Council and to become a member.

Tubac Art and Gifts Transforms into an Artful Gift Shop Featuring Local Creativity
Tubac, AZ — Tubac Art and Gifts is excited to announce its transformation into an artful gift shop, offering visitors a carefully curated collection of one-of-a-kind treasures. From unique handmade gifts and home décor to creative works that embody the spirit of Tubac, the shop now celebrates artistry in everyday giving.
As part of this transformation, Tubac Art and Gifts is also opening its doors to the creative process itself. Beloved local artist Roberta Rogers will be working in a part-time studio located within the shop. Visitors can meet Roberta, watch her paint, and experience her artistry firsthand every Thursday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
