Hi All,
For those of you that have fled the state, yes it is getting very hot. We had 4 birders today and started the walk at 73 degrees at 7 am and we were at 93 degrees at 9 am. We did not find any Yellow-billed Cuckoos but we had plenty of Chats. A young Vermillion Flycatcher was following dad around and catching his own bugs from the air. We had a very good dove day with Morning, White-winged, Eurasian Collared, Inca, and Common Ground Doves. The Inca Doves were very sad and calling out "No Hope, No Hope" while the Ground Doves were partying with their "Whoop, Whoop" calls. The Zone-tailed Hawk was still on the nest, and started yelling at us to go away and flew closer to us, as to say "Go Away!!!" So we did.
Reta and I were headed to Silver City, New Mexico but a forest fire is burning just outside of town so we will soon head to Colorado instead. Hope you all have a cool summer and get out and protest.
We had a total of 38 species today. The Trip Report is here: https://ebird.org/tripreport/386235
Thanks
Rob Rutledge
